Food from My Mother’s Kitchen!!
Its that time of the year, when I return home to my folks.
From living a lonely, depressing life in a hostel far far away, this seemed to
be the only respite. Whatever one eats in whichever part of the world, but the
food, which comes out of a mother’s kitchen that truly brings a smile to your
face and takes you down the memory lane.
Coming home after a few months feels like heaven. The stresses of life disappear as soon as the first bite of the mother’s dish enters my mouth. Her white dhokla’s with particular chutney that she serves it with. The whiff of the cooked dhokla’s made me forget all my worries. Thats when I realized this were just the beginning and how much I had missed this. My home was the only constant in my ever so volatile life. The time when I needed to come back to the roots and realize how I liked myself. It was the place to forget all my worries and be myself again. I missed being with my mom. One hour in the kitchen with her, while she whipped up some delicious recipes of her, I came around to being happy and cheerful. After all, it was her and this food, which I grew up eating that made me myself. The food that made me realize that if the food was the same and could make me walk down the memory lane, I could be myself again.
Each and every dish that came out of my mom’s kitchen was yummy as always and it never did lose its flavor. Even the slight variations enhanced the flavor of the Okra she cooked. It was then when I understood, that the basic foundations have to be the same for us to be the way we are. To keep ourselves the way we always were, indifferent to situations, which jolt us but still don’t change our personality.
Its time to bring out the age old, home- made, customized flavors. It’s time to get back to my oldself. This time with a few more additions. A little addition of spice or saltiness, might do the trick in bringing myself back.
